Gannet's bath

Phrase used in *ASC (975) of the sea when referring to invaders from Europe, i.e. Vikings, or rather their absence in England during the reign of Edgar the Peaceful. The phrase is apt: gannets are famous for their greed, thus those who crossed the gannet's bath also were greedy. The term used for this kind of compound synonym is *kenning.
